Visit local wildlife rescue sanctuaries, one devoted to monkeys.

Visit a Botanical Garden. We have several.

Watch for flora and fauna in the jungle at Coba.

Check-list the many fishes, reptiles, birds, and mammals at home in La Sirena.

There are many local arts and crafts stores showcasing the wonderful Maya culture

Akumal Shopping

Stay local visit the gift shops throughout Akumal for wonderfully curated crafts.

Go to a local glass factory where they make Mexican handblown glass.

Go Tulum and enjoy browsing both the town and the beach road.

Make a day of it and head to the pedestrian-friendly shopping Mecca that is 5th Avenue in Playa del Carmen. Here you will find not only Mexican crafts, but also great American and European designers!

Akumal Volunteering

Learn about the sea turtle and volunteer to help them.

Find out how to donate goods for the Children of Akumal or volunteer your time on a future visit.

Our local library, Hekab Be is 100% supported through donations of supplies, money and time from locals and visting supporters. They are always in need of supplies!

CEA (Centro Ecological Akumal)

Centro Ecologico Akumal (CEA) is an organization in Akumal that works towards environmental stability in the area through research, education, ecosystem management and advocacy.

The Sea Turtle program focuses on protection, conservation, research and management on four local beaches and has an active volunteer program.

The CEA office is open Monday to Friday from 9:00 AM – 1:00 PM & 2:00 PM – 6:00 PM. Stop by for a tour and more information.
